About Officiant
Lance Orndorff
Lance is a full-charge
professional wedding officiant.
Lance can be found each weekend in
and around the DC metropolitan area - from Baltimore to Fredericksburg,
Annapolis to Winchester - officiating all types of ceremonies
for people from all traditions and backgrounds.
Lance is registered and/or
qualified to officiate marriages by the statutes of Virginia, West Virginia, District of Columbia, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
Certificate evidence of the registrations (where required) are available upon request. Email questions you may have about other states.
When it comes to
theology, Lance is solidly a follower of the Jesus Christ message for
spiritual freedom and enlightenment. At the same time, Lance is open to
sharing with others and hearing from them how the creator has been
revealed in their lives. Whether non believers, believers in
Christianity, or other faith traditions, Lance finds his own faith
clarified and strengthened through sharing with others who experience
both the same and different revelations from God. Lance neither rejects
nor excludes those from his services or life that do not think or
believe as he does. Instead, Lance embraces all of God's people and
accepts all people as gifts from God through whom he can Love, learn,
share, pray, and counsel with or be counseled by.
Raised in a
Charismatic non-denominational church, Lance later enjoyed membership
with the United Methodist while in college. He first served in a First
Christian Church in NY, then later an Assembly of God mission
church in Washington, DC. Lance's most recent church affiliation was
with a group of non-Roman Catholics as a fully ordained Priest (with
Apostolic succession) who enjoyed the full-church sacraments without
limitations. This explains Lance's broad view of the Christian tradition
and the Love and acceptance of each church body's individual and
collective teachings, worship, and traditions. It is a challenge for
some to understand how Lance can be committed to his own slice of faith
while open to all others...yet this is where Lance feels his gifts are
most revealed - that he is best equipped and prepared to serve his
community - not just a select few, but all.
Lance's Masters and
Doctoral work centered on cognitive development theory and counseling.
He is a trained and experienced family mediator, pastoral counselor, and
mentor. You often will hear Lance refer to the concept of "challenge and
support" as he encourages individual growth in thought, service, faith
and experience. He maintains his professional membership in the National
Association of Student Personnel Administrators as a part of his
commitment to maintaining a professional edge when it comes to serving
youth and young adults.
Presiding over
weddings is Lance's idea of a broad mission to all people. His messages
always center on Love. And since a marriage ceremony is, in fact, a
celebration of the Love that God has graced the couple with and the
decision of the couple to nurture that Love for a lifetime together,
Lance has an opportunity to share his thoughts on from where that love
comes, how it is best preserved and protected, and the joy with which
the community can be a part of the couple's lives. Some couples prefer
not to have what they consider a religious wedding ceremony. But in
fact, anyone that has attended a wedding ceremony where Lance has
presided will tell you - it is all about how God's love has touched and
transformed the couple's lives - whether "religious" or not, that is the
absolute thread that binds.
The bottom line is
that Lance does not want a couple to shy away because of his religious
affiliations and beliefs. Instead, Lance wants to make it clear to all
couples that celebrating their Love and the life God gifted them with is
his desire and that he is willing and experienced at assisting the
couple in formulating a ceremony that matches their expression of faith
with their commitment of a life together.
